The Challenge You Face #1:
Emotional Exhaustion at Home
Every Sunday, Associate Pastor Mike puts on a brave face for his congregation. But behind the scenes, he's struggling. At home, his marriage is strained, and he feels disconnected from his preteen and teenage children. The constant arguments and silent treatments leave him emotionally drained before he even steps into the church office. As he tries to lead his departments and teams, Mike finds himself short-tempered, unable to focus, and having lost his overall ministry passion. The weight of everyone's problems at church, combined with his own family issues, is taking its toll.
The Challenge You Face #2:
Emotional Burnout in Church Leadership
Every Sunday, Sarah puts smiles and kindness on for her department, team, and the congregation. But behind the scenes, she's struggling. The weight of everyone's problems, the constant need to be "on," managing staff peer-to-peer conflicts, and the pressure to grow the church are taking their toll.
The Challenge You Face #3:
Emotions, Coping Mechanisms, Moral Failings and Crisis
David, a dedicated volunteer leader of the First Impressions team, appeared to be a pillar of strength. However, overwhelmed by life's demands and lacking emotional management skills, he turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. This hidden dependency culminated in a drunk driving incident that injured a person in the community, exposing David's struggles to the entire church community. The fallout was immediate and far-reaching:
- The Lead Pastor faced the daunting task of confronting David, initiating restoration, and removing him from leadership
- Countless hours were invested in counseling, rebuilding trust, and managing the church's response
- A time-consuming search began for a suitable replacement, then more time invested to train them
- What should have been a season of growth and ministry impact has become a period of damage control and rebuilding.
This crisis highlights the critical need for emotional intelligence training in church leadership, demonstrating how neglecting emotional health can derail ministry impact and consume valuable resources
The Looming Problem in Every Church
They are not alone. Across the country, church leaders are facing an epidemic of emotional exhaustion, relational strain, and spiritual depletion.
70% of pastoral staff
constantly fight depression or fear of inadequacy
50% of millennials & 75% of Gen Zers
have left roles in organizations due to mental health around organizational conflicts
80% of lead staff
are estimated to have a diagnosable mental health issue at some point
65% of team leaders
desire to be more equipped to help others in distressing emotional states
The real problem? Most pastors, church staff, volunteer team/small group leaders were never taught how to effectively manage their emotions or navigate the complex relational dynamics of either family or ministry. They're expected to be spiritual superheroes at church, while their inner world and home life crumble silently in the background. And then, we act shocked by diminishing work energy, the divorce of staff marriages, pivoting out of ministry roles, intensified infighting, discovery of moral failings, or even worse.

“Enlightening. Encouraging. Hopeful. Impactful. … this week helped me see what some of my patterns of behavior have been and why. It gave me hope. I have the tools, the community and a path to address them now. I feel I am now in a true place of overcoming. … I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude!”
Lead Pastor
“How would I describe my experience [with Red Ink Revival/Patrick Norris]? Life changing! Being a fourth-generation pastor, I’ve been in a few conferences in my life. I’ve been my whole life in church. … I thought I had a solid foundation of theology. But connecting the dots [of why I do what I do] was very difficult for me. … Getting to the core of why do I feel the way I do. This retreat was just in time for me. …My wife [witnessing what has happened since attending the retreat] said, ‘This is the biggest miracle of my life.'”
Who Is Our Instructor/Trainer?
I am Patrick Norris, a Christian/Pastoral integrative coach with over 40 years of Senior/Lead Pastor experience. I specialize as a Transformational Life, Behavior, and Relationship Coach. My skill set is in emotional resilience, relational intelligence, and unwanted behavior recovery, focusing on the intersection of Biblical theology, psychology, neurobiology, and organizational systems.
I begin with a Biblical “soul-based” approach, emphasizing that all mental function originates in the immaterial soul and is represented in the brain and body. This unique framework honors the interconnectedness of the soul and body while prioritizing emotional restoration through the faculties and capacities of the soul.
My professional training includes a masters level certification program from the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals, founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes. This was the launch and equipping with advanced tools in emotional management, relationship distress stimulations, compulsive/addictive recovery, and trauma reprocessing. Over the years, I have also traveled internationally as a keynote speaker, delivering transformative presentations on leadership, emotional health, and spiritual growth.
I have supported pastors, church staff, professional/college athletes, television/movie actors, and psychotherapists, using evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Techniques, Trauma Reprocessing, Brain/Body (Somatic) Experiencing, and Mindfulness Practices. My principles are Biblically based and vetted, with foundational integrative Christian Devotion Exercises that animate the functions of the brain and body.
My mission is to help leaders help themselves and thereby help others. We make sense of their own stories, discover their emotional and spiritual root systems, and gain the tools for lasting transformation. Whether addressing organizational leadership, marriage and family dynamics, personal emotional recovery, or learn how to effectively minister to others, I provide a clear and practical path for leaders to thrive.
The diverse experiences I bring to this program ensure that it is tailored to meet the unique challenges church teams face, fostering emotional health, relational intelligence, and spiritual vitality for lasting impact.
